ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Who do you design for and what is your style?
Ultimately every designer must design for themselves in order to be satisfied and prepared to put that creative effort on display and out in the world. If I can bring a little bit of color and pattern into your life, I would be happy with that.
My style is sophisticated and refined, marked by an eclectic mix of design elements and color palettes. I like to be playful and inventive with my technique and love when my designs unfold in unexpected ways. At the same time I'm meticulous and thoughtful and can adapt my work to suit the needs of the client and market.
What inspires you?
People, pattern, color, texture inspire me. I am constantly taking pictures of just about everything. My day-to-day life provides me with more inspiration than I could ever have imagined. For a boost of inspiration I look to my favorite designers like Zina De Plagny, Owens & Kim, Luli Sanchez and Timorous Beasties to name only a few.
What do you love about being a designer?
Each design is an opportunity to surprise myself and stretch the limits of my imagination and creativity. I get to mine the depths of my character, experiences and sub conscious and from that arrives my truth, beauty and craft.
What else would you like us to know about you?
As a child I played for hours with the piles of fabric in my mother's sewing room, draping myself with yards of brocade and velvet and gorgeous cotton prints. I suppose my love of pattern and color began in that room and led me on a journey to become the committed textile and surface pattern designer that I am today. I'm most creative and productive when I honor my inner child's sense of wonder and play.
