Freelance Designer at Simple Modern Style
ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Who do you design for and what is your style?
I am currently creating designs to target the home decor, gift, textiles, paper goods and ceramic tile industries. I design with simple graphic shapes combined with beautiful forward-looking colors to create an unexpected repeat that excites. My patterns have been applied to greeting cards, packaging and brands and I am looking to grow my surface pattern design client list over the next year.
What inspires you?
Looking at what is already in a particular market and how that market is changing offers new ideas for color and design in my work. Nature, sea life, flora and fauna, typography, architecture, and my urban surroundings provide an abundant source of inspiration. My design process feeds off this continual flow of visuals around me and from unexpected sources.
What do you love about being a designer?
I have always loved being able to solve a design or color challenge in more than one way. By listening to the needs of the client and providing solutions that are new and fresh really feeds my design energy.
What else would you like us to know about you?
I studied Color Design with leading colorist, Leatrice Eiseman, at the Eiseman Center for Color Information & Training. Eiseman is a color specialist who has been called "America’s color guru," recognized worldwide, and is a prime consultant to Pantone, Inc. This program covered the psychology of color, advanced color training for industry, professional color systems, color naming and specifying, and color forecasting.
Judith Crook, Art Center professor and color theory author, encouraged exploration of computer color renderings as well as painting and fabrics. I successfully completed the in-depth study of color theory and application with Judith.
I remain passionate about color and am an active Board Member and Chairholder of the Color Marketing Group, the Premier International Association for Color and Design Professionals.
I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Graphics and Packaging from Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, California and an Associates of Communication form Oregon College of Art, Ashland, Oregon.
