ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Who do you design for and what is your style?
I am a bit of a chameleon when I design. I have a lot of experience in customer service, so I have learned to observe my clients and reflect their style in my work. My favorite projects, however, are inspired by the forms and colors found in nature. I like to get down into the intricate details of things, and find ways to put inside jokes or side references in my work.
What inspires you?
I love to travel, and hike and play with my camera. I find inspiration in unlikely places, like a water ring on the table, an unexpected spoken word, or abstract forms in plain sight. It requires being quiet, emptying distracting thoughts out of my head, and looking at the world like a giant painting, instead of a place to go through to get from A to B.
What do you love about being a designer?
I love getting lost in the right side of my brain, and being surprised by what I find there. While I am a people person, I enjoy giving myself permission to disengage from the world to swim and improvise with colors and forms for hours. Being a designer requires a sense of play and imagination, and what could be better than that?
Where can you be found/what are you doing on your days off?
There is no end to the variety of ways I will spend my days off, from the very mundane but satisfying task of cleaning out and organizing my storage spaces to taking a road trip just to see what's on the other side of that hill. I am very lucky to live near the Pacific coast, where my favorite days off are spent sitting by the ocean with a good book. Also, this area is rich with culinary and cultural adventures, so my body and spirit are very well fed.
